4 Ways To Boost Your Self-Care Routine & Why You Should

September is National Self-Care Awareness Month. It was created to remind us to take care of ourselves and how important self-care is if we really want to thrive in life. It can be easy to overlook as we get sucked into our busy lives. However, by making self-care a priority you are better equipped both mentally and physically to deal with everything that life throws at you. As the old saying goes, you cannot give from an empty cup. If you’re not already, now’s the time to start prioritizing you.

Today we’re going to cover 4 ways you can boost your self-care routine:

1. Start Small

Don’t think you have to change the world overnight. If you start making too many changes to your self-care routine you will overwhelm yourself. Pick one thing you’d like to incorporate into your routine and start doing it. It can be something as simple as remembering to take your make-up off every night or starting a bedtime skin care routine. Whatever you choose to do, commit to it and make time to do it. If you’re the forgetful type, set an alarm on your phone everyday to remind you.

2. Remember It’s Not All Bubble Baths

When people think of self-care they normally envisage spa days and people lying around with cucumbers on their eyes but self-care is so much more than that. Real self-care is about improving both your physical and mental health. Sometimes self-care can look like bubble baths and beauty products and sometimes it’s taking time for yourself to do something you really love. Start making time for yourself to rest and rejuvenate.

3. You Are What You Eat

Everything we put into our bodies has an impact on our general health & wellbeing. When we eat foods that are good for us we feel good. Our skin starts to glow and our hair & nails get thicker. If you’ve been feeling sluggish or tired recently, have a look at your diet. How could you improve what you eat? Try not to focus on going on a diet but rather eating foods that make you feel good.

4. Create A Routine

The best way to incorporate new self-care rituals into your life is to have a self-care routine and stick to it. Spend some time thinking about the changes you’d like to make and write them all down. Create a schedule for your new routine and stick it somewhere that you can see it. A ritual unlike a habit is something that you do on purpose and with intent. A habit is something that you do unconsciously and with no true purpose. Be intentional with your self-care and remain present in the moment. Taking care of yourself is something to enjoy, not endure.
